Staff Spotlight: Alexandra Perez, Company Manager & General Assistant Manager

Earlier this summer, our Marketing Intern took it upon herself to make sure that you, our friends and patrons, get to know our staff a little bit more. She's gone back to college for her senior year, but we have a new Marketing Intern, Connor Norton, joining us for our upcoming season! He'll be continuing our Staff Spotlight Series, and up next he's interviewing Alexandra Perez, our Company Manager & General Assistant Manager.

Alexandra grew up in Norfolk, having lived here since she was 5-years-old. She started off as a music major at Old Dominion University before realizing that theatre was where she wanted to be. Alexandra then changed majors and completed her BA in Theatre. This is her second season with Virginia Stage Company, having started last season as a Carpentry Intern before transitioning into her role as Company Manager & General Assistant Manager.

Marketing Intern: How did you come to work for Virginia Stage Company?

Alexandra Perez: I started as a Carpentry Intern in fall of 2015. Soon after, an opportunity arose to work as Company Manager, and here I am.

MI: If you could produce any show, what would it be and why?

AP: Hmmm….that’s not an easy one…well, it would most likely be a musical because I love music of course. I would really like to do Dog Fight. I worked on the show’s songs a lot in my music classes, and I think I’d love to put the show together and do it.

MI: Where is your favorite place to grab lunch in downtown Norfolk?

AP: I’ve only been to Slover Cuisine once, but it’s already become an easy favorite. It’s yummy, and everything I have there always feels fresh, and I like it.

MI: Favorite oxymoron?

AP: Slumber Party! I saw it the other day at the Shell Gas Station, and I loved it. I didn’t even think about it, but it’s true!

MI: What has changed here at Virginia Stage since you first began?

AP: Well…we got a new office; we’re renovating the theatre, but not too much has changed for me. I’ve only been here for a year, so most of this change is just ‘how things are’ for me, but I mean…a theatre and office change, you can’t NOT notice that.

MI: What are you looking forward to most this season?

AP: I’m looking forward to the community partnerships coming up this season, which is definitely a new and awesome thing. I think the partnerships with the local schools and community organizations will hopefully bring more new audiences to theatre that we haven’t seen before.

MI: Where is your favorite place to be in the world and why?

AP: Right now, and this might sound corny or lame, but my favorite place in the world to be is snuggled up with my four-month-old baby girl, Sloane.
