Vino Culture Wines for FIDDLER ON THE ROOF
Kiera Hill of Vino Culture in Downtown Norfolk has thoughtfully curated a wine selection fitting for our production of Fiddler on the Roof! Learn more about the wines here:
Feature Wine: Backsberg Kosher Merlot: South Africa
As a special feature wine for the Fiddler on the Roof show, we selected a Kosher wine from South Africa made by the Backsberg family. The Back family farm was established by Charles Louis Back, a Jewish refugee from Lithuania who landed in South Africa both penniless and illiterate in 1902. He eventually was able purchase a small farm that was passed down from generation to generation and is now a thriving and sustainable winery operated by the 5th generation of the Back family. Certified as the first carbon neutral winery in South Africa, Backsberg also practices social and ethical sustainability with extensive educational scholarships and other community initiatives. Their Kosher line is vegan, Mevushal and Kosher for Passover. This Merlot is a bold but elegant wine with blackberry, damson plum, and pomegranate notes integrated with hints of elderberry tea, black pepper, and leather. Nuanced aromatics and a long finish, this wine will continue to evolve in your glass as it opens up.
Sparkling Rosé: Bonelli "La Madre Terra" Brut Rosé: Italy
If you like Prosecco or Cava, you will love this sparkling Pinot Noir from Italy. Soft, foamy bubbles with a fruity finish, full of strawberries and apricots, this is a perfect aperitivo wine!
White: Collina San Ponzio Roero Arneis: Piedmont, Italy
If you like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc you will love this Northern Italian white wine. The Arneis grape has hints of lemon, pineapple, and pear with a medium body and crisp finish. This wine is delightfully refreshing!
White: Perrin Côtes-du-Rhône Réserve Blanc: Rhône, France
If you like Chardonnay or Viognier you will love this Southern French white blend of Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, and Roussanne. Easy to drink and medium-bodied, the wine has flavors of melon, orange zest, and yellow apples. Complex but approachable, this wine can pair with anything!
Red: Perrin Côtes-du-Rhône Réserve Rouge: Rhône, France
If you like Pinot Noir or other light to medium-bodied reds, you will love this red blend from Southern France. A blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, the classic “GSM blend,” this wine has a little bit of everything you want in a wine: silky finish, bold fruits like strawberries, raspberries, and plums, along with hints of herbs and spice, just lovely!
Red: Two Mountain "Hidden Horse" Cabernet Sauvignon Blend: Washington State
If you like big, bold, robust wines, you will love this Washington State red blend. Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc for this rich wine laden with currants, dark cherries, vanilla bean and leather. While fuller bodied, it has a soft finish that makes it so pleasant to drink!
