Produced in collaboration with Norfolk State University Theatre Company
MARCH 6 - 24, 2019
Adapted from Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison's first novel, The Bluest Eye follows Pecola, a young girl in Ohio in the 1940s, who is pregnant at her father's hands. The play, both poetic and daringly funny - even as it breaks your heart - takes us through not only the whys of Pecola's story but also the hows. Character driven, with actors playing multiple roles, Pecola is taken in by a loving family. The two brilliant and kind sisters at the heart of it, Frieda and Claudia, look out for her and walk us through the exquisite storytelling. A story that looks at how the world might break us or give us the light to grow.
This production may be inappropriate for children under 13 due to tough subject matter.
This performance runs two hours with intermission.

Why do we call a dandelion a weed?
The question, simplistic as it may seem, is at the heart of Lydia R. Diamond’s dramatization of Toni Morrison’s first novel, “The Bluest Eye,” on stage at the Wells Theater.
