In this beginning/intermediate acting class we’ll cover:
Where did GOTE come from?
How do I stay spontaneous in a pre-written scene?
What makes acting compelling?
Why keeps me from sounding plastic?
All you need is a device that can access Google Hangouts Meet, a monologue, and a sense of adventure!

Keep your acting skills in shape and get ready for auditions. VSC Lead Resident Theatre Artist Ryan Clemens will you help you solve some challenges like:
What do I do with my hands?
What things can help me stay connected while I’m talking to no one?
How much should I move for a real-time theatre audition? What about an online submission?
Is this monologue “right” for me?

SELF TAPE WORKSHOP WITH ROBYNE PARRISH (AGES 16+)
with Robyne Parrish, Mrs. Wormwood in Season 40’s Matilda at Virginia Stage
THURSDAY, APRIL 9 AT 3:30PM – 16+
Self tape auditions . . . They are here, they are not going away anytime soon and for many the struggle is real. Finding the right material and setting up your space for the best presentation possible is a must and can be fun! In this one-hour boot camp, you will be asked to:
*Submit a self tape, one minute or less that includes a slate and 30-40 seconds of your best work, musical or monologue, your choice.
*The entire class will have the opportunity to view every self tape and Robyne will offer essential feedback to help shoot your tape to the top of the pile! You will also receive crucial notes regarding your choice of material. Set up, lighting, transferring and more to be discussed. Get ready to FLY!
Robyne is an Actor/Director/Coach living and working in NYC. You may remember Robyne as Mrs. Wormwood in Matilda at Virginia Stage last season.

Director of Public Works, Patrick Mullins will be hosting a round table of folks sharing what gets them through the day. This is a place where all artists are welcome to come and share their victories, their challenges, and their struggles. We do ask that you come with a heart full of empathy and a desire to share love and joy with other artmakers. BYOB. Or Tea. Or whatever you'd like, it's after 5 o'clock!

UNDERSTANDING SHAKESPEARE 2: A Look At Romeo & Juliet

Do you ever look at Shakespeare and just glaze over it? This class explores text analysis from the actors’ point of view in approaching Romeo and Juliet. While completing Understanding Shakespeare is helpful it is not required. You’ll never view Shakespeare the same again!
